Tim is the Managing Partner of the firm and has been with the firm for over fifteen years. His practice entails all aspects of intellectual property procurement, management, and enforcement, with a current emphasis on representing plaintiffs in patent litigation and licensing matters. Prior to entering the intellectual property field, Tim worked as an engineer in the chemical and oil industries.
Although Tim's primary focus is patent litigation, he has also successfully litigated intellectual property disputes regarding trade secret, antitrust, trademark, unfair competition and professional malpractice matters. Tim has developed particular expertise in multi-party, multi-forum, complex patent litigation. He represents several Fortune 500 companies as well as many smaller clients. He plays a primary role in the firm's contingent fee litigation and technology licensing practice, which endeavors to make effective litigation representation available to smaller clients. Tim has handled cases involving a wide range of technologies, including advanced materials, reaction catalysts, pharmaceuticals, control systems, integrated circuits, computer software, semiconductor inspection equipment, digital asset management, application integration, injection molding, and food processing. Tim also handles appeals on behalf of the firm's clients, and has successfully argued several cases before the Courts of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and Ninth Circuit.
Tim also advises clients on infringement and validity opinions, IP risk management, IP valuation, technology transfer and licensing, joint technology ventures, IP based venture capital financing and other related business matters. Tim is less regularly involved in the prosecution of patent and trademark applications, but continues to manage prosecution matters for several clients.
Tim is involved in the firm's recruitment, training and professional development programs and is a member of the firm's Executive Committee. He has authored articles and chapters for leading IP publications and treatises, and was recently named as an Illinois SuperLawyer for Intellectual Property Litigation by Law & Politics magazine.
