Dr. Kaba is a partner in the firm and focuses primarily in the areas of patent prosecution and strategy.

After graduate school, Dr. Kaba spent several years in postgraduate studies involving free-radical chemistry and kinetics, and the liquefaction of lignite and higher-grade coals. He worked as a research chemist and patent agent for a large international corporation for over seven years. After law school, Dr. Kaba practiced law in Washington, D.C., mainly in the areas of environmental and other technically-related areas, and in Detroit, Michigan, in Intellectual Property Law.

Dr. Kaba has patent preparation and prosecution experience in biotechnology, including cell lines, enzymes, proteins, interferon, immunology, neuroscience and cancer; ceramics, including SiC and Si3N4; drug delivery systems; environmental applications, including waste control, recycling, and sludge processing; injection molding, including gas-assisted injection molding processes, equipment, and plastic parts; laser ablation and chemical vapor deposition techniques; laser glasses; lubricants and automotive fluids; medical devices; metallurgical processes and materials; mineral processing; plastic and polymer chemistry, processing, and applications; silicon chemistry and processing, including metallurgical and semiconductor grades; siloxane chemistry and processing; synthetic diamond and diamond film fabrication; and thermal spray powders and equipment.

Dr. Kaba is currently working with a number of clients in chemical, medical, pharmaceutical, and biotechnology areas. Dr. Kaba has authored or co-authored over fifteen scientific and legal publications. His publications include (1) "Intellectual Property in Drug Discovery and Biotechnology", Burger's Medicinal Chemistry and Drug Discovery, 6th Ed., and (2) "Pitfalls Abound in Provisional Application Process" which was published in the October 23, 1995 edition of the National Law Journal. Dr. Kaba has also given numerous seminars across the country concerning patent practice, especially with regard to biotechnology.
