The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has announced that its first satellite patent office will be located in Detroit, Michigan. The Detroit office will house about 100 employees in an historic 31,000-square-foot facility and is scheduled to open by July 2012. 

The USPTO intends to establish at least two additional satellite offices in the next three years, and will be accepting public comments regarding the additional satellite offices until January 30, 2012.
